Za'atar / Wild Thyme
Origanum syriacum
Za'atar (Origanum syriacum) is the authentic Lebanese wild thyme — distinct from common thyme — and the cornerstone of Levantine medicine and cuisine. Rich in carvacrol, thymol, and rosmarinic acid, with documented anti-cancer effects against breast, colon, and cervical cancer cell lines. Lebanese studies have shown that carvacrol induces apoptosis through caspase activation and inhibits angiogenesis. The traditional Za'atar spice blend (with sumac, sesame, and olive oil) combines multiple anti-cancer compounds synergistically.
