Crocus sativus
Crocin and crocetin in saffron inhibit tumour proliferation and topoisomerase (a chemotherapy drug target), and may sensitise cancer cells to cisplatin. Saffron is also clinically proven to reduce depression and anxiety in cancer patients — a significant quality-of-life benefit.

Recommended Dosage
20–400 mg saffron extract daily, or a pinch (0.1–0.3 g) of saffron threads in food/drink.
Preparations
Kesar Milk
Soak 5–8 threads in 1 tbsp warm water, add to warm milk with cardamom. Drink at bedtime.
Saffron Tea
Steep a pinch of threads in 1 cup hot water 5 min. Add honey and cardamom.

Cautions & Interactions
- May thin blood — caution with anticoagulants
- Avoid >5 g/day — can be toxic
