Artemisinin / Sweet Wormwood
Artemisia annua
Artemisinin and derivatives (artesunate, dihydroartemisinin) react with iron in cancer cells — which accumulate iron more than normal cells — to generate free radicals that selectively destroy cancer cells. Studies show activity against breast, colon, lung, and leukemia. Artesunate is currently in clinical cancer trials in Europe.
