Magnolia Bark / Hou Po
Magnolia officinalis
Honokiol and magnolol from Magnolia bark are potent anti-cancer polyphenols that cross the blood-brain barrier. Honokiol induces apoptosis in breast, colon, brain, and lung cancer cells, inhibits STAT3, and shows synergy with conventional chemotherapy. It also reduces cortisol and anxiety, and has antidepressant effects — addressing the psychological burden of cancer.
