Turkish Rhubarb / Da Huang
Rheum palmatum
Emodin and rhein from Turkish Rhubarb show anti-cancer activity against colon, breast, liver, and lung cancer cells through topoisomerase inhibition. It is the fourth herb in Essiac Tea and used in TCM for 'clearing toxic heat'. Its anthraquinones address opioid-induced constipation — a common and distressing problem for cancer patients on pain medication.
