Noni / Indian Mulberry
Morinda citrifolia
Noni has been used as a primary medicine across Polynesia, Hawaii, and the Pacific for over 2,000 years, with cancer, pain, and immune dysfunction among its traditional indications. Its anticancer reputation in Western research stems from damnacanthal — an anthraquinone compound that inhibits Ras oncogene function. Ras mutations drive approximately 30% of all human cancers (including 90% of pancreatic cancers), making Ras inhibition a significant therapeutic target. Noni juice also contains proxeronine, polysaccharides, and scopoletin that collectively enhance NK cell and macrophage activity. A University of Hawaii clinical study found noni juice significantly prolonged survival in patients with advanced cancer when used as an adjunct. The entire plant — fruit, leaves, root, and bark — is used in different Pacific traditions, each with distinct preparation methods.

Recommended Dosage
30–90 ml pure noni juice daily on empty stomach. Or 500–1000 mg noni fruit powder/extract daily.
Preparations
Pure Noni Juice (Traditional)
30–90 ml pure, unfermented noni juice on empty stomach in the morning. Start with 30 ml and increase. The traditional Polynesian preparation used fermented noni (softer taste); both forms appear active.
Noni Leaf Tea
3–5 fresh or 1 tsp dried noni leaves steeped in boiling water for 10 minutes. Drink once daily. Leaf preparations are used by Hawaiian traditional healers and have distinct alkaloid profiles from the fruit.

Cautions & Interactions
- High potassium content — avoid in kidney disease or with potassium-sparing diuretics
- May cause liver stress at very high doses — multiple case reports of noni-associated hepatotoxicity; do not exceed recommended doses
- May interact with warfarin (contains coumarins)
- Avoid during pregnancy
- Choose 100% pure noni — many commercial products are diluted with grape or apple juice
